Would you like to help people living with Frailty? Why not sign up to become a Frailty Friend? or ask your organisation to get involved with Frailty Champions! Frailty Friends are a community of individuals that aim –
1 To recognise Frailty in myself or others
2 To know where to access resources to support someone living with Frailty
3 To support someone with Frailty
4 To engage with the community to help people live well with Frailty
In order to support the community of Frailty Friends we will send regular updates of what is going on to support those living with Frailty and come along to healthy aging events to talk about Frailty and the Frailty Friends community. In pledging to be a Frailty Friend you will agree to watch the Frailty Focus campaign video providing knowledge of what Frailty is and what you can do to
Frailty Friends are identifiable by their badges so stop and talk to them to find out more and what they have learnt and done to support those living with Frailty.

Frailty Champions are health care professionals whose organisation has pledged to ‘Champion Frailty’ and provide education to all their staff to the Skills for Health Core Capabilities Tiers. Frailty Champions are identifiable by their badges similarly to Frailty Friends.
Frailty Champions pledge –
1 To know what is meant by the concept of frailty as a long-term condition of reduced
resilience and increased vulnerability to deterioration as a result of relatively minor stressors
2 To be aware how living with frailty affects, and is affected by, many different aspects of a person’s life (including the person’s physical health, immobility, mental health, loneliness, cognitive function and their social and home environment)
3 To be aware that frailty is becoming more common due to an ageing population
4 To know that although frailty becomes more common as people get older, it is not an inevitable consequence of ageing and can be applicable in all age groups
5 To be aware that the extent of a person’s frailty can change (up or down) over time and can be influenced by lifestyle or other factors
6 To be aware that people living with frailty are more at risk of confusion, falls, problems with mobility and side effects of medication
7 To know where advice, support and information can be obtained for people with frailty, families and carers
8 To be educated to Tier 2 level for core capabilities (Skills for Health. 2018)
9 To act as a conduit to my team ensuring that they are educated to Tier 1 or Tier 2 level for core capabilities (Skills for Health. 2018)

Frailty Friends and Champions were fortunately funded by brighterway charity in order to start this great work needed to standardise and educate the community of Frailty Friends and Champions. We encourage organisations to get in touch about how they could become part of this campaign and how individuals can pledge to be a Frailty Friend in their own community, looking out for those living with Frailty.
Frailty Friends and Champions have not yet received any government funding for the campaign and have managed to maintain the work by charitable funding and donations through brighterway. We are proud of the work we have achieved to date and know we could achieve so much more in the future with an aging population and an increasing rate of Frailty.
- £5 will fund two Frailty Friend information packs including a badge, leaflet and how to access more information about Frailty.
