On Sunday 3 April, Michelle Wills took part in the Vitality Reading Half Marathon. Following months of training and fundraising for Leigh House, Michelle finished the challenge with a great time of 2:12:15, raising a total of £1110.
Michelle’s daughter, Jasmine, has been fighting anorexia nervosa for much of the past twelve months and was offered a place on the Leigh House inpatient programme towards the end of last year. Leigh House is an acute adolescent psychiatric service providing inpatient treatment for young people between the ages of 12 and 18 years.
Following her daughter’s admission to Leigh House, Michelle was inspired to start fundraising for a day out for her daughter and the other young people at the unit.
Michelle said: “We were very lucky that Leigh House offered our daughter a place on their in-patient programme. Everyone there is so caring and progress is slowly being made.
“I wanted to raise enough money for a trip out for the young people at Leigh House, as for some of them leaving the relative safety of the hospital can be quite a challenge in itself, and this could well be the boost they need to help them kick start their recovery.”
Michelle started with a modest fundraising target of £300 and has well and truly blown it out of the park. Well done, Michelle!
Michelle will shortly be appearing in the Basingstoke Gazette and also on ITV Meridian, raising awareness of eating disorders.
Michelle is still accepting further donations, so if you would like to support this fantastic cause, please visit her JustGiving page:https://www.justgiving.com/RunMichelleWills
