brighterway is new, but charitable support for NHS patients is as old as the NHS itself. Immediately after the NHS was founded, over 65 years ago, the National Association of Leagues of Hospital Friends was formed to ensure that the principles of local, civic responsibility and the practice voluntary service that predated the NHS were continued. It’s original objective, to “mobilise, encourage, foster and maintain, the human love of the people of this Country, in the giving service to supplement the healing work of the staff and the State, and always ensure a humanising supplement to the work of the hospitals” is as relevant today as ever and this page is dedicated to the Friends, fundraising and volunteering partners of the services that Southern Health runs.

League of Friends of Lymington New Forest Hospital
The League of Friends is a Registered Charity (No.1070233) founded in July 1952 and the achievements made over the past 60 years have only been possible because of the wonderful support received from the New Forest community.
The League depends wholly on its members, volunteers and the general public for the generation of its funds. It applies those funds towards the purchase of medical and other equipment for the hospital when the equipment is not available through normal NHS channels.
The charity is supported by a Board of Trustees whose diligence ensures the money received is put to the very best use. The League has over 400 members, 100 of whom are committed volunteers running the café, shop, ward trolley service and weekly library and hospital tours. The volunteers are dedicated to making a real difference to the experience people have when they need to come to the hospital and to their families and friends who visit them.
More to come…
We are currently working with our partner organisations to put together further profiles on them. Check back soon!
